IWCF WELL CONTROL

IWCF WELL CONTROL – LEVEL 2 (INTRODUCTORY)
IWCF – International Well Control Forum

An oil industry Membership Organisation whose primary purpose is to develop and administer well control certification programmes for personnel employed in oil well Drilling, Workover and Well Intervention operations.

Duration
3 days plus IWCF examination on 4th day

Who will benefit?
Level 2 Well Control is recommended for all members of the “Wellsite Operations Team” working in roles which may directly contribute to the creation, detection or control of a well influx (OGP Report 476, p.9).

Positions suited to level 2 training:

  • Assistant to Wellsite Supervisor or Wellsite Drilling Engineer
  • Wellsite office based Operations Geologist
  • Roughneck
  • Derrickman
  • Barge Engineer
  • BOP/Subsea Engineer, Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operator and LMRP Engineer
  • Drilling Contractor wellsite Rig Engineer
  • Wellsite ROV Supervisor
  • Wellsite Drilling Fluids, Mud and Completion Fluids Engineer
  • Wellsite Cementing Engineer/Operator
  • Wellsite based Wireline or Slickline Crew Supervisor, Crew Chief, or Lead Engineer not involved with controlled pressure operations
  • Coiled tubing and intervention services Wellsite Supervisor (Non Pressure Operations)
  • Wellsite personnel supervising Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations or Underbalanced Drilling (UBD) Services
  • Wellsite Casing Crew Supervisors
  • Wellsite Directional Driller
  • Fishing Engineer or Fishing Tool Operator (Not supervising Pressure Operations)
  • Mud Logger or wellsite Drilling Data Engineer responsible for monitoring drilling operations at the well site

All candidates new to IWCF examinations will have to start at Level 2.
Level 2 training should be completed within one year of assuming a position that requires this level of training and repeated every 5 years thereafter.

Course Content
Theoretical Well Control introduction.

Course Objective
Candidates will gain a comprehensive knowledge of Well Control theory and learn how to apply this knowledge to most of the well control situations. They will be prepared for the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) test program.

Certification
Candidates must demonstrate their knowledge by achieving a minimum score of 70% in each section of the IWCF test program. The test program comprises of a written test on Equipment knowledge and a written test on Principles and Procedures.
Successful candidates will receive an IWCF certificate that is valid for five years from the date of successful completion of the program.
No candidate will be able to sit an IWCF Level 3 exam for the first time without a valid Level 2 certificate.
If the candidate has a valid certificate, IWCF Well Control or IADC WellCAP, (valid or expired for less than 24 months) then he just carries on as before. In this case, no changes apply.

IWCF – International Well Control Forum

An oil industry Membership Organisation whose primary purpose is to develop and administer well control certification programmes for personnel employed in oil well Drilling, Workover and Well Intervention operations.

Duration
4 days plus IWCF examination on 5th day

Who will benefit?
Anyone involved in drilling and/or well control operations in a non-supervisory position with Surface BOP stack.
–All positions from Floorman to Driller inclusive.

Course Content
Theoretical and practical well control for Surface BOP installations at Driller level.

Course Objective
Candidates will gain a comprehensive knowledge of well control theory and master the practical skills required to apply this knowledge to most well control situations. They will be prepared for the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) test program.

Certification
Candidates must demonstrate their knowledge and practical capability by achieving a minimum score of 70% in each section of the IWCF test program. The test program comprises of a practical skills test, a written test on equipment knowledge and a written test on principles and procedures.
Successful candidates will receive an IWCF certificate that is valid for two years from the date of successful completion of the program.

IWCF RE-SIT RULES (as from 1st February 2014)

  1. If a candidate fails two or more components at the first attempt they will not be eligible for an instant re-sit, they must attend a full course of training.
  2. If the candidate achieves 65% or below in one of the components, they are not eligible for an instant re-sit, they must receive further training prior to a re-sit examination. IWCF will ask for evidence of re-training.
  3. If a candidate fails one of the components at 66% and above, they are eligible for an instant re-sit or to come back within the 90 day re-sit period.
  4. If the first re-sit attempt is 65% or below, the candidate will not be eligible for an instant re-sit and must receive further training prior to completing the final attempt within the 90 day re-sit period. IWCF will ask for evidence of re-training.
  5. Instant re-sits will be provided to those candidates who meet the above mentioned criteria and where test materials and invigilation are available.
